Our Values

Sustainability, organic cultivation and respect for the ancient practices and crops are at the center of everything we do at Podere Montisi.

01. ORGANIC LIFESTYLE

We live a true Tuscan country lifestyle, which at its roots is organic. We cultivate our crops in keeping with the organic certificate guidelines, drink artesian well water from the Monte Morello massif, and we compost all organic waste in order to reduce our environmental footprint.

We sell our organic ancient grains and salts and welcome guests from around the world to our agriturismo so we can share our organic lifestyle with others.

02. SUSTAINABILITY

We are proud to be zero impact farm, with an environmental footprint that has been reduced to the minimum. The company building even received the maximum score in the Energy Performance Certificate!

Heating is powered by a biomass boiler (using wood and pellets).

We maintain self-sufficiency as a farm and agriturismo as our supply of electricity comes from solar panels.

03. preservation

It was important for us to maintain as many elements of the original farm as possible. Today the old wood-burning bread oven is still in regular use, and the home retains its original structure. The walls of the room that once housed the wine vats are still intact today and we converted the manger for the cows into a cosy and relaxing living room. If you pay attention you can envision exactly what Podere Montisi looked like 100 years ago.

04. BIO-ARCHITECTURE

From the very beginning, renovations of the building were carried out with total respect for the original architectural elements and conducted within the strict criteria of eco-friendly building.

For the renovation, we researched and used many natural materials, such as natural stones, Tuscan terracotta, lime plasters, egg paintings and casein. The walls were plastered with organic lime and the floors, where restored, are made of Trani marble.
